Alumni Spotlight: Elaine Gisvold

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we catch up with alumnus Elaine Gisvold.

What are you doing now?

I am retired now, but I worked for two Canadian companies:  One was a wholesaler of fertilizer and I spent 24 years there.  I was in the Midwest Sales Office and worked on a variety of projects over the years.  My favorite was putting together 100 car trains of potash from the mines and delivering product to domed storage on the Mississippi River.  I also filled river barges for delivery to various points on the Mississippi River.  It was fun to organize and deliver product to where it was needed.

The second Canadian company for which I worked was an automotive parts wholesaler.  I worked there for 6 years and ended up being the assistant to the Controller.

How did APS prepare you for this role?

I think Austin High School prepared me by providing an excellent education.  I did not have a college degree but I felt AHS and its excellent teachers gave me the equivalent of a 4 year college degree.

What is your advice for current Packers?

Stay true to yourself!

Who at APS inspired you?

My teachers: Mr. Nicols, Mr. Reed, Miss Martini, Mr. Peters, and Mr. Hummel, to name a few.

What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?

Hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes.
